After 25 years working in the financial services industry in Norwich I had a career change and began an ecology degree at UEA in 2003. During my second year I attended a conference at UEA which involved PhD students in the field of ecology presenting their work. This inspired me to want to do a PhD myself, and to undertake research relating to birds in which I had been interested since the age of 8. In 2006 I began researching a PhD about Modelling the Influence of Changes in the Agricultural Landscape on Farmland Birds.
