Biography

Julia Robathan is a lecturer in Physical Education and Sport specialising in the area of Sports Development and Physical Activity. Originally from Norwich, Julia completed a BSc (Hons) Sport Development degree followed by a Master of Arts degree also in Sport Development at the University of Gloucestershire. Whilst at the University Julia was instrumental in the re-design and management of a student led social enterprise engaging students in service learning opportunities whilst affecting the local community with positive change through sport and physical activity. This enterprise model has been shared in a variety of education and public service settings. Julia is passionate about research in the area of Service Learning through community sport. She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching Higher Education from the University of Hertfordshire. Prior to joining UEA Julia was a Senior Lecturer and Admissions Tutor at the University of Hertfordshire contributing to the BSc (Hons) Sports Studies cluster of programmes.

Julia has experience within various roles at the Bedfordshire Football Association with responsibility for community facility and staff management, marketing, female football development, youth football lead and female talent pathway manager for the FA Girls Talent Pathway. She holds a variety of coaching qualifications and has experience delivering in school, community and elite settings through a range of organisations. Julia was part of the national Football Association – Referees Association Youth Council as Vice Chairperson for its inaugural structure between 2012-2014 and has led events and projects to increase referee recruitment and retention across the country.

Julia’s current contributions include FA Affiliate tutor for the FA Basic referees course alongside operating as a senior county referee and operating on the East Anglian Pool of Assistant Referees. She is also an Education and Welfare Consultant to the FA Girls Regional Excellence Camps in the London West Region supporting talented players with their progress into the England U15 team. Locally Julia is a member of the board of trustees at child bereavement charity Nelsons Journey.
