Biography

I was born in Spain where I lived before moving to France, Argentina and Scotland for short periods. I settled permanently in England in 1997, first in London then Norwich.

Career

I have more than 12 years of teaching experience at all levels in six UK universities, in addition to previous experience of teaching modern languages, literature and ethics to children in primary and secondary education.

I have written and published short fiction as well as other texts including journal articles. At the moment  I am working on a collection of short stories, Contando Contigo, that will be published by Huerga y Fierro (Spain) in 2010.

I also work as a translator and interpreter for institutions such as the European Commission, or projects like the “Forensic geographical provenance and identification of human remains from the Spanish Civil War”.

I am keen on developing interdisciplinary projects exploring language, art, culture, migration, memory, conflict resolution and identity issues. The invitation by the Sainsbury Centre of Visual Arts to organize two workshops for the World Art Forum in November 2008 gave me the opportunity to apply my research on those subjects, and to engage with a wide audience beyond purely academic approaches.

I have combined my studies and formal employment whenever possible with voluntary work for organizations and groups such as UAS (Universitarios por la Ayuda Social), Amnesty International, CAFOD, Missionaries of Charity and La Trêve de Dieu.
