Dr Eleni Kaplani joined the University of East Anglia in 2015 as Lecturer in Engineering. She holds a PhD in Electronic Engineering (University of Kent) and has over 12 years research experience in the field of solar energy and photovoltaics. She worked as Research Associate in INTERREG IIIA project at the University of Kent, as Senior Research Fellow in the Renewable Energy Systems Lab and Adjunct Lecturer at the TEI of Western Greece (now University of Peloponnese). She has participated in several FP6 and LEAD ERA - FP7 EU funded research projects in solar irradiance prediction, PV degradation and diagnostics, nanotechnology-based solutions for improving PV performance and energy efficiency of buildings. Her research mainly focuses on the spatiotemporal modelling of solar radiation, dynamic electro-thermal models for the PV temperature and power output prediction, the development of novel opto-electrical characterisation and non-destructive testing diagnostic techniques for the detection of degradation mechanisms in photovoltaic cells and modules. Her research interests further cover the application of QDs and nanocoatings with unique optical properties in solar cells/ modules to enhance efficiency, reliability and durability.

She is Associate Editor in Heliyon Energy (Elsevier Journal), member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), Committee Member of the IET ACN and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA).

Dr Kaplani currently holds the role of MSc Course Director, Senior Adviser, and Disability Liaison Officer in ENG.
