Key Research Interests

My research examines how witch-hunting was tied to the rise and fall of Presbyterian religious and political hegemony in Great Yarmouth.  This has involved understanding the religious tensions between Presbyterians and Church of England conformists in the 1620s and 30s, and the challenge of Congregationalism particularly in the mid 1640s.  My research also explore the nature of urban factional politics and their increasing strength in the Caroline period.
