Academic Background

I am an applied mathematician, working as a post-graduate researcher under the supervision of Dr Robert Whittaker and Dr Paul Hammerton. My research is in the field of fluid and solid mechanics, in particular, the mathematical modelling of collapsible tube flows. In my recent work, I have been using applied methods from differential equations to find decoupled solutions to a partial differential equation (PDE) that models the forced deformations of an initially axially uniform elastic walled tube of elliptical cross-section. Our aim in the near future is to generalise our results for elliptical tubes to elastic walled tubes with arbitrary initial cross-section.

At UEA, I have been involved in teaching many of the modules that form part of the standard undergraduate degree. Examples are inviscid fluid mechanics, multivariable calculus, mechanics, mathematical modelling, analysis, mathematics for scientists (A,B and C) and mathematical techniques.
