Camilla grew up in the United States, in St. Louis, Missouri. 

Her research interests include the politics of memory, histories of immigration, the impact of decolonisation and international development, transnational race politics and ideas of citizenship and the nation in postwar Britain.

In 2013, she published a book on Enoch Powell with Cambridge University Press. She is now working on a history of anti-racism in postwar Britain. She teaches courses on twentieth-century British history, the British Empire and postcolonialism.
