Biography

Chris Price came to UEA in 2018 with thirty years’ experience of working in all genres of broadcast television. As a Studio Cameraman at BBC Television Centre for fifteen years, he worked on live and recorded programmes ranging from EastEnders to Later with Jools, Blue Peter to Dr Who, acquiring an extensive knowledge of production techniques and operational skills in Studio, Outside Broadcast, location, and single-camera Drama environments.

For the later part of his BBC career Chris became a production innovator and skills champion for programme-makers delivering generic and bespoke teaching sessions on television production - camera and sound operation, editing and colour grading, sound mixing skills and multi-camera techniques. He has travelled overseas to deliver learning for the World Service Trust and has held innovative sessions through sign-language interpreters and over Skype to inaccessible locations. As well as TV production techniques, Chris has also taught teams and individuals from all the main BBC radio channels, and each year coaxes the Hay Festival AV Team of volunteers through a multi-camera ‘Boot Camp’.

Since leaving the BBC, Chris worked at the East Anglian Film Archive bidding successfully for Heritage Lottery funding amounting to over £150k, and led a team in the delivery of 600 digitised films and metadata to the BFI’s ‘Britain on Film’ website.

In January 2018, Chris was contracted by UEA as Associate Tutor teaching the multi-camera TV Studio Production module and the single-camera drama-based Film & Video module, and has been able to refresh the content of the modules to bring them in line with current working practices in the industry - for example, introducing Albert Sustainable Production teaching following BAFTA’s roll-out of the initiative to the education sector.

Outside UEA, Chris is a non-executive member of the Board of Directors of Yehudi Menuhin School Enterprises, and is involved in the use of performance capture as a teaching tool after being consulted on a project to install a multi-camera HD system in The Menuhin Hall – the modern, purpose-built concert hall at the specialist strings and keyboard school.
